Sushi Plate

Sushi takes almost a lifetime to master. I thought it would be simpler but it is not quite that simple. First of all, everything needs to be ready to assemble. It is called “Mise en Place”. Which is a French culinary term meaning “Put in Place”. In our sushi dish we made a spicy sauce, we sliced mushrooms and an avocado, julienned peppers, cucumbers and scallions. We also wrapped the bamboo mat with plastic to keep it clean.

Once everything was ready, we started to roll. I even attempted to make a caterpillar roll with the avocado on the outside. It was not successful because I squeezed it too much and the avocado became mushy. I need to practice rolling. I also think that my jicama was not dehydrated quite enough. I can’t wait to try and experiment at home!
